Defining Neurodiversity Affirming Spaces - A research zine by Helen Kara, Kate Fox & George Watts

Defining Neurodiversity Affirming Space is a research zine exploring what it really means for a space to be neurodivergent-affirming — and what neurodivergent people themselves say they need to feel safe, comfortable, and able to be fully themselves.
Created by neurodivergent researcher Helen Kara, stand-up poet Kate Fox, and autism researcher George Watts, and funded by the Independent Social Research Foundation, this zine shares data, analysis, and findings from a participatory project involving neurodivergent people in workshops held in person and online. Inside you'll find collages, drawings, word clouds, and poems — all created by or alongside the people who took part.
The zine presents the project's working definition of neurodivergent-affirming space, explores how sensory environment, time, softness, and community all shape whether a space truly works for neurodivergent people, and invites you into an ongoing conversation about where this work goes next.
Published under Creative Commons licence CC BY-SA.
