Enhanced Thumbnail Display and ZIP File Support

Introduction

We've significantly improved the page thumbnail viewing experience across the application. This update brings faster loading times, better performance, and proper support for ZIP-encoded pages in the thumbnail viewer.

  • Thumbnail-First Display: Page thumbnail lists now display actual thumbnail images instead of loading full-size images, resulting in faster page loads and reduced bandwidth usage
  • ZIP File Support in Preview: The page thumbnail modal now properly handles ZIP-encoded pages, automatically extracting and displaying them with loading indicators
  • Unified Thumbnail URL Handling: Created a reusable utility function for building thumbnail URLs, ensuring consistent behavior across all components
  • Modular Page Extraction Logic: Extracted ZIP page processing into a dedicated custom hook (usePageExtractor) that can be reused across different components

How to Use

The improvements work automatically:

  1. Browse Thumbnails: When viewing the "All Pages" section on a book's detail page, you'll see thumbnail images that load faster
  2. Preview Pages: Click any thumbnail to preview it in full size - if the page is ZIP-encoded, it will be automatically extracted with a loading indicator
  3. Reader Mode: In the book reader's thumbnail sidebar, thumbnails now display properly with optimized loading
